Qualification

Applicant should possess the ability to be a professional orchestra musician (regardless of age and nationality)

Dates of Auditions:

1) 1st round: Friday, April 16, 2010
2) 2nd round: Monday, April 19, 2010
The audition time will be set up and notified by the TMSO management in due course.

Venue of Auditions:

Tokyo Bunka Kaikan / Main Rehearsal Studio (TMSO Rehearsal Studio)

Deadline of Application:

Resume and all necessary materials below (see application) must be brought in by person to the TMSO management office located in Tokyo Bunka Kaikan 1F by 5:00pm on Monday, March 29, 2010 or sent through post and must be received on or before Monday, March 29, 2010.
If the applicant is a student, 1 (one) letter of recommendation is required. Japanese translation should accompany the letter if it is in a language other than Japanese.
The resume will not be returned.

Application:

Resume should include the following
1) Personal information; applicant’s name, nationality, date of birth, sex, address, telephone number (also contact information in Japan), email address, musical education, teachers, awards and musical experience.
2) ID Photo (30mm X 40mm) of the applicant to be attached
3) Audition Pieces (see screening)

Screening

[1st Round Audition]
Audition piece 1: One concerto to be chosen from the following
Mozart: Violin Concerto No. 3, No. 4 or No. 5
1st movement (without Cadenza)

Audition piece 2: One concerto to be chosen from the following
1st movement from Bartok Violin Concerto No. 2
1st movement from Brahms Violin Concerto
1st movement from Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E minor
1st movement from Sibelius Violin Concerto
1st movement from Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto
*State the pieces chosen from audition pieces 1 and 2 in the resume.

Orchestra Excerpts:
Orchestra excerpts will be handed in person on Monday, March 29 between 10:00am-5:00pm at the TMSO management office. For those who wish to have them mailed, please state so in the resume when sending the application. The excerpts will be sent out on March 30.

[2nd Round Audition]
For applicants who passed the 1st round.

Audition pieces
Same as in the 1st round audition.

Orchestra Excerpts

Others

Applicant is asked to bring his/her own accompanist for both 1st and 2nd round auditions.
*Please state otherwise if an accompanist needs to be arranged by TMSO. Fee is to be paid to the accompanist.
Results of the 1st round will be notified only to the successful applicants by phone on Friday, April 16.
Results of the 2nd round will be mailed to all applicants on Monday, April 19.

Interview

For applicants who passed the 2nd round.

Probation

After passing the audition, the candidate will be on 4 months probation.
For candidates who cannot begin work immediately because of being a student or for any other reasons may consult.

Salary and others

Salary in accordance with the TMSO regulation.
Social Insurance (health insurance, employee pension, employment insurance) provided.

1) Screen applicants on the basis of their documents
The results will be mailed on Saturday, March 6 with the applicant’s audition time for the 1st round.
2) 1st round: Monday, March 22, 2010
3) 2nd round: Wednesday, March 24, 2010

Haydn: Cello Concerto No. 1 in C major
Haydn: Cello Concerto No. 2 in D major,
Dvorak: Cello Concerto in B minor, op. 104
Schumann: Cello Concerto in A minor, op. 129
*State the piece chosen in the resume.

Audition piece 2:
Beethoven: Cello Sonata in A major, op. 69, 1st movement.

Orchestra Excerpts:
Orchestra excerpts will be mailed to the applicants who passed the document screening on Saturday, March 6.

For applicants who passed the 1st round.

Audition pieces
Same as in the 1st round audition.
