Percussion -1 (one)

  • Anyone who has the ability to be a player of a professional orchestra.
  • Regardless of age and nationality, but needs to have an ability to communicate in Japanese language for daily life and for carrying out the service as an orchestra member.

① Document screening / VTR (Video Tape Recording) Screening

Deadline for application: Resume and VTR must arrive no later than December 20, 2016.

    *See “Application” below for completing the Resume

    *VTR: Record the following pieces (a.b.c.) to DVD-R and submit.

    *The submitted DVD-R must be playable on DVD player in Japan.

    【Notice for DVD recording】

    *The recorded video image of you performing must show your full-length figure and the size of your image must be three quarters (3/4) of the screen.

    *There is no need to create DVD chapter divisions by each instrument. (You may create the divisions if preferred)

    *Editing is not allowed within one piece. (The video recording of the performance should be made from the beginning throughout to the end of the piece.)


    ★Results for the document / VTR screening will be sent off on Monday, February 6, 2017.
    Notification for 1st round audition timetable and the music (set pieces and orchestra excerpts) will be mailed to successful applicants.



    ② 1st round audition Monday, March 13, 2017

    • Held for successful applicants of the document and VTR screening.
    • There are two parts for 1st round audition. Successful applicants of the 1st part will participate in the 2nd part on the same day.
    • Works from the following will be assigned for screening on the day of the audition.

    ○ Snare Drum:Bring your own instrument including the stand. (Chair is prepared at the venue)

    ○ Xylophone: Use TMSO’s instrument (KOROGI)

        Ⅶ 3/4 Allegro A-dur

    ○ Orchestra Excerpts

    *The music for the set pieces and orchestra excerpts will be sent off on Monday, February 6, 2017 together with the notification for timetable of the 1st part of the audition.

    ○ Successful applicants of the 2nd part will join TMSO’s concerts as guest players for a certain period. (The concerts in which the applicants are to take part will be considered in accordance with the applicants’ schedule.)



    ③ 2nd round audition (Screened by all musicians of TMSO)

    •  The date of 2nd round audition will be decided in line with the successful applicants’schedule and will be notified together with the content of the audition.



    ④ Aptitude evaluation for an orchestra player (screened by all musicians of TMSO, final round)

    *After passing the 2nd round audition, applicant will be engaged in the services of the TMSO (in principle within 4 months period)

Notification for Results
  • Results of 1st round audition, 2nd part will be notified on, Tuesday, March 14, 2017.
  • Results of 2nd round audition will be notified accordingly.
  • Results of aptitude evaluation will be notified immediately after screening.
Interview Held for applicants who passed the aptitude evaluation for an orchestra player.
  • Resume (*Please download the resume form here.) and DVD-R must reach no later than 5:00pm Tuesday, December 20, 2016 either by post or brought in person to the TMSO management office. Resume should include names of teachers, musical education, experiences with ID photo attached.

    *If the applicant is coming from outside of Tokyo area, the time for 1st round audition (1st part) maybe consulted. In such case, state your preferred time on your resume.

    *The resume and DVD-R will be used solely for the purpose of the audition and will not be returned

Terms of employment
  • Salary will be on an annual salary scheme in accordance with the TMSO regulation.

    - 3 year contract with renewal.

    - No retirement allowance provided.

  • Commuting allowance, expenses for expendables, maintenance, and repairs of instruments are provided.
  • Social Insurance (health insurance, employees pension insurance, employment insurance) provided.

*For candidate who cannot begin work immediately because of being a student or for any other reasons may consult.

  • Applicants should be responsible for their travel expenses and accommodation for the audition.
  • After passing the 2nd part of the 1st round audition, remuneration will be paid to the applicants in accordance with the TMSO regulation when taking part in concerts.
