  • Qualification
    • Anyone who has the ability to be a principal player of a professional orchestra regardless of age and nationality.
  • Application
    1. Document and Video Screening
      Deadline: Application must arrive no later than Thursday, August 1, 2019
      *For resume, see guideline for application below.
      *For Video Screening, record the listed works below on “DVD-R” and submit.
      *The submitted DVD-R has to be playable on DVD players in Japan.
      (For those applying from overseas who find it difficult to record on DVD-R may contact the person in charge of the audition at TMSO and send the video recording via internet.)

      [Guideline to video recording]
      *Indicate the name of applicant on the surface of the disc.
      *The pieces can be recorded in any order. However, recording with omission of any piece(s) will be disqualified.
      *Recording can be done one piece at a time.
      *Video must be shot by a fixed camera and the applicant’s face, hands and the instrument have to be clearly visible.
      *Utmost care must be taken so that there will be no background noise that might affect the screening.
      *Be sure to check the overall image and sound quality before submitting. Poor recording quality may result in disqualification.
      Result of the Document / Video Screening will be sent off on Monday, September 2, 2019.
      Notification for 1st round audition schedule and Orchestra excerpts will be mailed to successful applicants of the document screening.

    4. Aptitude evaluation for an orchestra player (held for successful applicants of the 2nd round audition)
      *To be engaged in the services of the TMSO (In principle within 4 months period)
      *Fee is provided in accordance with the TMSO regulation

    2.3.Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, TMSO rehearsal studio
    4.Respective concert halls where TMSO concerts are held

  • Notification for Results
    • Results for the 1st round audition will be notified on Friday, September 20, 2019.
    • Results for the 2nd round audition will be notified on the day of the audition.
    • Results for the aptitude evaluation will be notified immediately after screening.
  • Interview

    Held for applicants who passed the aptitude evaluation for an orchestra player.

  • How to Apply
    • Resume (see below) and DVD-R for the Video screening must be received on or before Thursday, August 1, 2019 by post or brought in person by 5:00pm on the same day to the TMSO management office.
      *Applicants applying from outside of Tokyo Metropolitan Area may consult the audition time for the 1st round audition. In such case, please note the preferred time in the Resume.
      *The resume and DVD-R will be used solely for the purpose of the audition and will not be returned.
    • -Resume should include the following
      -Personal information; applicant’s name, nationality, date of birth, sex, address, telephone number (also contact information in Japan), email address, musical education, teachers, awards and musical experience.
      - ID Photo (40mm X 30mm) of the applicant is to be attached

  • Terms of employment
    • Salary will be on an annual salary scheme in accordance with the TMSO regulation.
      - 3 year contract with renewal.
      - No retirement allowance provided
    • Commuting allowance, expenses for expendables, maintenance, and repairs of instruments are provided.
    • Social Insurance (health insurance, employees pension insurance, employment insurance) provided.

    *For candidates who cannot begin work immediately because of being a student or for any other reasons may consult.

  • Others
    • Applicants should bring his/her own piano accompanist needed for the 1st and 2nd round audition. (For applicants who find it difficult to bring his/her accompanist due to residing overseas or outside Tokyo Metropolitan Area, TMSO will arrange an accompanist if needed. Please contact the person in charge below.)
    • Applicants should be responsible for his/her expenses for transportation, travel and accommodation.
